A arte de ver cidades

The rights denied to children

Since 2010, COSPE has been working with CRIA (Integral reference centre for adolescents), active in the city of Salvador (Brazil), favouring training and aggregation opportunities for children, adolescents and young people to spread the necessary information to protect their rights, creating new opportunities and paths that disregard violence.

The project

This project is based on the art-education model developed by CRIA and organizes artistic training courses for young people in the State of Bahina, which are involved in the preparation of a play that denounces the problem of violence and sexual exploitation of children and adolescents, to end the silence on violent practices and create a culture of condemnation, prevention and protection of young people. The play is set in the district of Pelourinho and is about the daily life of local women and families. The characters are old residents of the Pelourinho that, starting from the challenges they have to tackle every day, convey important lessons, denouncing the different situations of violence to which their children are exposed: alarm bells on the traps set by the ones who deceive, abuse and exploit other people promising them a job, success and a better life out of Brazil.
