Interculturality, rights and social justice

We promote an inclusive and plural society

Inclusion in the education sector

COSPE has a cross-cutting approach to interculturality in all of its work, functional to promote messages which promote anti-racism, equal opportunities, equality of rights and development of the capacity to confront different points of view without prejudice. For this, COSPE promotes the transformation of education systems as key to interculturality, it favours the access to schools and the full development of the potentialities of young people from abroad or of linguistic minorities, it facilitates the full enjoyment of the right to instruction (formal and informal education), opposing discriminating phenomena and it promotes processes of internationalisation of the scholastic systems and the networking of public school institutions and association participation promoted by migrants.

Migrant and minority rights

COSPE promotes and defends the rights of migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and ethnic minorities whether it be in Italy and Europe or in different countries across the globe, sustaining the right to international mobility, promoting humanitarian protection and reception, as well as concrete pathways for integration into work, education and society, to exercise their rights and the broadening of free spaces; demanding for equal opportunities to access services and professions, to resources and to public life for migrants and discriminated  minorities.

Participation to democratic life

COSPE strives to support the defence and the broadening of democratic spaces whether it be in Italy or abroad, between participating and demanding administrative transparency and balance between rights and duties of citizens. Therefore we support the various forms of social and political activism, offering platforms to train in active citizenship or connect between consolidated movements and new generations of activists. We support the monitoring and evaluation of public administrations’ work by citizens and civil society and we value culture as a form of interpretation of realty and the critics of our societies, in this way re-establishing a connection between values and practices.

Economic Rights

The current economic and financial crisis, far from being the opportunity for radical change in politics and in their application, has become an alibi to re-launch the neoliberal agenda of the economic elites. Many of the reactions to the current crisis come from the economic world and, although they can be worthy of support, they represent an answer from the market in a crisis driven by the market. Through a “social and solidarity economy”, COSPE intends instead to take a step forward, supporting those who place themselves firmly in a process of structural change of the system which, through ecological and social transition, satisfies the needs of the community. To confront this challenge, COSPE must: be present inside national and international networks; dialogue with social movements; participate and follow multilateral institutional spheres; imagine project convergences with administrations especially local ones; and accompany new economic subjects such as cooperative, social businesses or informal groups toward progressive sustainability.
